Behind-the-Scences: Wedding Lighting at Lowndes Grove

Updated: May 2, 2022

When it comes to lighting your wedding, where does a bride even begin? Luckily we are here to help with every step of designing your wedding lighting to create the ambiance you are looking for. This blog post, gives you a behind-the-scenes look at a wedding we helped put on with Pure Luxe Bride at Lowndes Grove in early October. Ensuring your lighting is cohesive with your venue is imperative to creating an unforgettable experience. Keep reading to see what went into the lighting design for the various areas this beautiful venue has to offer!

The Main Tent

In the 54 x 72 foot main tent, the design called for three of our large Valentina Chandeliers to be hung in a luxurious row at the top of the tent. We also helped with the cable rigging of Smilax, otherwise known as lush greenery, throughout the whole tent. The combination of the Valentinas with greenery adds a timeless and romantic look to the tent. For this wedding, the main tent was used for cocktail hour and dancing after the reception dinner in the sail tent. Valentinas adds the perfect amount of warmth as the night sets in, and the celebration gets going.

The Sail Tent on Front Lawn

A unique touch to this wedding was the use of a sail tent on the front lawn for the reception dinner. We haven't done many lighting designs like this at Lowndes Grove, so it was nice to get sent reference photos for inspiration from the bride. Our Operations Manager and Head of Wedding Design, Shea Ange, describes this Café Lighting design as a "basic scalloped pattern from the edges of the tent to the point, and then scalloped back down to the next section." We love how the design incorporated more greenery and florals with warm lighting for an intimate and unforgettable dining experience.

Oyster Tabby by Dock

Last, but not least, we often do simple lighting designs over the oyster tabby in front of the stunning 700-foot long dock. For this wedding, we hung a cable from the oak trees to create a V-pattern of Café Lights that hung symmetrically above the vintage outdoor lounge area. Café Lights add a romantic effect when seen in the back of your wedding photos, and we're obsessed with the added warmth they give off in combination with a Charleston sunset.
