Case Study #2: Upgrading Your Church on a Budget

The key to a successful upgrade is to maximize your impact, while minimizing the expense. It is important to take inventory of the desired long term goals and the resources that are currently available. Most churches cannot make the leap to achieve all of their goals at once and may find that re-appropriating some of the resources they already have will serve as a stepping stone towards the right direction.

In the case of one church, we developed a clear vision of a high tech, industrial, modern image. The two most prominent features in the church for conveying their Message are video and the band. With this in mind, we placed a large portion of the budget into video screens that could be used for visual imagery behind the band. We made a forward thinking choice to use a widescreen format for the new screen purchases, but were able to make use of older projectors that they already owned. We upgraded the main center projector, but used a screen that was no longer needed at another campus. A complete overhaul of the sound system was not in the budget, so the existing system was enhanced with additional speakers. We also used most of their existing lighting system, while adding in a truss structure that will allow for future growth, while giving the desired look. By strategically blending the old with the new, this church was able to have a complete facelift without going over budget. They are also in a position to easily make additional upgrades as funds become available.
